Calling all Grey’s Anatomy fans to the OR because you don’t want to miss this. At last night’s Emmy Awards, the academy paid tribute to long-running series like Martin, Cheers, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Sopranos, and, of course, Grey’s Anatomy.

Emmy host and black-ish star Anthony Anderson joked about his mother’s (who was the real star of the night) love for medical dramas, so much so that she tried to cut out his appendix with a butter knife. Anderson then explained the life of a Grey’s fan in a nutshell.

With no further introduction needed, three out of the five OG interns and their mentors walk out to the series’ original theme song. Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Justin Chambers (Alex Karev), Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens), James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber), and Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) took the stage, and fans everywhere thought they were in one of Meredith’s coma dreams.

Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang) and T.R. Knight (George O’Malley) were missing from the original intern class, but it didn’t hinder the sweet reunion.

“When the first episode of Grey’s Anatomy aired in March of 2005, I’m not sure Shonda Rhimes knew that she had created a show that would have a lasting imprint on television and create lifelong friendships,” Pompeo began.

“Over 400 episodes and counting—a tribute to everyone who has been a part of our family,” stated Chambers, whose season 16 exit still hurts fans today.

“And yes, there have been changes over the years,” Heigl mentioned. Quite a bit of change, fans would agree. “But the one constant is the amazing fanbase,” she continued.

However, Wilson did commend the fans who “stayed with us through plane crashes, superstorms, earthquakes, and a global pandemic, and as we start our 20th season, we are officially the longest-running prime-time medical drama in TV history.” When you put it that way, you realize the emotional rollercoaster you’ve been on.

“And that would not be possible without all of you, so to all our fans… to all of you, thank you,” Pickens Jr. ended.

The reunion was as nostalgic for the cast as it was for the fans, specifically Heigl, who exited the show on a low note in 2010. “In one way, it feels like I just saw them all, and in another, it’s like all this time has passed,” Heigl told E! News on the carpet.

Regardless, the cast agrees that Grey’s remains a monumental moment in their personal and professional lives, and for that, they are grateful.

Season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy premieres on March 14 only on ABC and the next day on Hulu. Check out the iconic reunion below.
