Every few weeks, a new product is spread across TikTok, and people rush to get their hands on it. Recently, the Stanley Cup has taken over peoples’ feeds.

The cycle for the most fashionable drinkware brings in a new item every few years; before, it was the Hydroflask, and now it’s a Stanley Cup. Although the Stanley Cup company prides itself on being sustainable, the heightened consumerism around its products is less than.

On its page, it states “The most sustainable products are the kind that never need to be thrown away or replaced. Stanley has created reusable, Built For Life™ products for over 100 years, reducing demand for disposable products that end up in waste and water streams.” But the people on TikTok are buying huge amounts of Stanley Cups, which would inevitably be thrown away.

Stanley was invented in 1913 by William Stanley Jr. The vacuum steel tumblers range from $14 to $60. Although not very cheap, they are the most wanted tumblers by even young girls. Around the holiday season, TikTok was flooded with videos of young girls crying because they were gifted a Stanley Cup for Christmas.

However, young girls are not the only ones who have bought into the fancy tumblers’ hype. Multiple videos across social media show large groups of adults waiting outside Target to get limited-edition cups.

The latest limited-quantity release by the brand was the Stanley + Starbucks collaboration cups. Thousands nationwide camped outside Target on New Year’s Eve to get their hands on the exclusive edition. Some videos of the drop show people snatching the cups from the shelves fights breaking out, and even a person trying to shoplift a Stanley. The limited-edition cups are already being resold on eBay for $1,000.

Stanley cups may be the hottest choice of drinkware at the moment, but TikTok trends change every few weeks. To participate in the trend, you can acquire one for yourself here.
