The cast for the upcoming Minecraft film is shaping up, as Jennifer Coolidge will now join the production. She will star alongside Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, and Jason Momoa, according to Deadline.

Coolidge is known for her background in comedy. Black, Brooks, and Momoa can also show off their comedic chops, so Coolidge’s involvement sounds fitting. Coolidge recently received praise for portraying Tanya McQuoid in the HBO series The White Lotus, which earned her two Emmy wins, including one on Sunday. She also took home a Golden Globe in 2023.

With the popularity and growing success of live-action video game films, including Detective PikachuSonic the Hedgehog films, Uncharted, and the HBO series The Last of Us, it seemed like a matter of time before studios would introduce a Minecraft picture. Minecraft is the highest-selling video game of all time. Marcus Persson is the creator behind the game, released in November 2011.

The film will be directed by Jared Hess, known for his 2004 comedy hit Napoleon Dynamite. He also collaborated with Black in the cult-following comedy Nacho Libre. The project has three credited writers: Persson, Chris Bowman, and Hubbel Palmer. Minecraft originally had a 2023 release, but due to COVID-19 delays, the film is now slated for an April 2025 premiere.

Coolidge’s film log consists of roles in Legally BlondeAmerican PieClick, and more. You can catch up and experience her recent Emmy-winning performance on The White Lotus streaming on MAX.
