Henrie will star in the series and reprise his role as Justin Russo, while Gomez will once again portray Alex Russo but will only be a guest star. The two are also set to step into the role of executive producer alongside Gary Marsh, who was a big creative voice for the original Wizards of Waverly Place. Gomez brings EP experience with her from her work on Only Murders in the Building, where her starring role has impressed critics and viewers alike. Jedd Elinoff and Scott Thomas are the current writers listed.
New cast members include Janice LeAnne Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.
The series follows Justin (Henrie) as he looks to settle down with his wife and kids after losing his magic, much like his father, until an untrained wizard suddenly appears at his door.
The original sitcom, created by Todd J. Greenwald, aired on Disney Channel from 2007–2012 and grew popular with that generation of kids.
The OG series followed a teenage Alex Russo as she faced the challenge of balancing her magic powers, growing up, and learning that everything is not what it seems. Jake T. Austin, David DeLuise, Jennifer Stone, and Maria Canals-Barrera made up the rest of the Russo family and friends.

There have been rumors of a reboot for some time, but it has finally been confirmed. Disney has rebooted many series and movies in the past. Just recently, the High School Musical franchise wrapped and brought stars like Olivia Rodrigo to the big stage. Boy Meets World landed the Girl Meets World sequel in 2014, where we were first introduced to Sabrina Carpenter.
Disney aims to add more sitcoms similar to its 2000s lineup. Hits like The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Hannah Montana, That’s So Raven, Good Luck Charlie, and countless others were staples in people’s childhoods.
