Richard Linklater’s new film coming to Netflix in June, Hit Man, starring Glen Powell, dropped its first trailer.

Powell, known recently for his supporting role in Top Gun: Maverick and his starring role alongside Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You, will portray Gary Johnson, a cop who pretends to be a hitman to catch people trying to hire real hitmen. With the success of both films, Powell has emerged as a Hollywood bright spot. The picture will hit Netflix on June 7.

Powell will collaborate with critically acclaimed director Linklater for this action-comedy, most famous for his beloved Before trilogy, Dazed & Confused, and Boyhood. Linklater and Powell co-wrote the screenplay and have also collaborated before on the 2016 film Everybody Wants Some!! The film will also feature Adria Arjona as his co-star, who appeared in the Star Wars television series Andor.

Hit Man premiered at the 80 Venice Film Festival and received glowing reviews before its set release. It is a true story, specifically attributed to an article released in 2001 of the same name for Texas Weekly.

Powell, at age 35, oozes potential as a film star with his recent choice of projects while impressively displaying his writing ability. In 2024, Powell will also star in Twisters, an updated tale of the original 1996 hit Twister. This year could be another successful one for the actor and quite possibly ground-breaking to show he has arrived as a performer who will be charming audiences for a long time.

For now, you can check out Powell in his newest film with Sydney Sweeney, Anyone But You, only in theaters.
