Ryan Gosling did not hesitate to express his thoughts on Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig not receiving Oscar nominations for their film Barbie.

Gosling portrayed Ken in the film and received recognition for his performance with a Best Supporting Actor nomination. In addition the song he sang in the picture, “I’m Just Ken,” was also nominated for best song. However, the lead, Margot Robbie, and director Greta Gerwig were left out of the Academy’s selections. Furthermore, the 2024 Oscar nominations announcement upset many Barbie fans.

Their snubs motivated Gosling to release a statement following the disappointing news for the cast and crew. “To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” he expressed.

“I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films,” continued Gosling.

“But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film,” he added.

Moreover, Barbie co-star, America Ferrara, who was nominated for her first Oscar as Best Supporting Actress, aligned with Gosling. Despite being grateful for the recognition, she found the omission of Robbie and Gerwig “incredibly disappointing.”

Barbie received nominations for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design. However, the absence of Robbie in the hunt for Best Actress and Gerwig for Best Director will feel strange to audiences who also loved the film.
