Yes, ‘Gossip Girl Day’ Is a Real Holiday, Here’s How to Celebrate

Hey, Upper East Siders. It turns out that tomorrow is Gossip Girl Day; yes, it’s a real holiday—in New York City, at least. Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg declared the holiday on January 26 to celebrate the CW series’s hundredth episode, “G.G.” a.k.a., the infamous wedding episode.

Gossip Girl was known for shooting in NYC’s most famous landmarks and helping viewers discover hidden gems. So, whether you’re a native New Yorker or a tourist in town, throw on your Manolos, order a bone-dry cappuccino, and get ready to hit the city UES style.

The Met Steps

Blair Waldorf was notorious for ruling the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or MET for short. She ruled her minions with an iron fist. Don’t think about sitting on the steps above her. Although NYC sees chillier days, you can head to the steps anytime from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and feel like a queen (or a minion, whatever you choose).

Central Park

Central Park made many appearances throughout Gossip Girl’s run—29, to be exact. In some episodes, it was only Nate Archibald and his father going for a run, but others were some of the iconic scenes we know and love. Blair and Serena’s first make-up happens under the Bethesda Terrace, and a few episodes later, they hit the Pulitzer Fountain on 59 Street and Fifth Ave, cueing Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls.”

Blair feeds the ducks in the park’s pond, and, oh, Chuck and Blair get married under that same terrace in the series finale.

Central Park can be an all-day excursion, but let’s head to other locations.

Grand Central Station

Is there anything more iconic than watching Serena Van der Woodsen walk through Grand Central Station with bags in hand as the whistles in “Young Folks” play? Although the station can get hectic during rush hours, arrive during the mid-day slump. You can indeed stroll around like the doe-eyed, leggy blonde. Don’t forget to tell someone, “I have to go,” for the full Van der Woodsen experience.

The Empire Hotel

While The Plaza Hotel was seen during a good chunk of the first season, nothing beats The Empire Hotel in the Gossip Girl universe. Chuck spent most of season 3 fighting for the hotel, even selling Blair for it. (We’re still not over this.) He fought for it again in the final season when his deceased father turned out to not be deceased and tried to take it back, then really passed away. Aside from all of the emotional baggage, the Empire Hotel has an exceptional rooftop restaurant with a stacked menu. The best part? The “XOXO-Gossip Girl” cocktail, made with Vodka, peach puree, and Prosecco

Laudrée

By this point, you’re probably famished and in need of a pick-me-up. What better way than to channel your inner Blair with some macarons? Laudrée on Madison Avenue has a delectable assortment of flavors, from “Strawberry Candy” to “Marie Antionette Tea.” There’s sure to be something for everyone. Be sure to pick up a signature gift box for the ride home.

Sarahbeth’s

If you’re looking for something a little more substantial, head over to Sarahbeth’s on Park Ave. for an all-inclusive meal. The menu has everything from refreshing salads to creamy yogurt parfaits and, of course, lots of mimosas, because what else do you do when the little bit of faith you had doesn’t work out?

Bonus: Water St., Brooklyn

Although most of the series takes place in Manhattan, the Humphreys are Brooklyn-bound, with their loft located on Water St. (although the exterior shots were done in Dumbo). In case you want to understand how rich the Upper East Siders were, they teased Dan and Jenny for living in a million-dollar loft in Brooklyn.

Here lies the end of our tour, and if you’re asking, “How can I celebrate “Gossip Girl Day if I’m not in New York?” Well, grab a headband and some lipgloss because it’s more fun, pour yourself a martini, and stream all six seasons on MAX. We know you’ll love it, XOXO.
