Margot Robbie: The Leap From Barbie to New Film Saltburn

Warner Bros.

If you didn’t know, Margot Robbie produced Saltburn. Yes, that Saltburn. The actress and producer first made so many women, men, they’s, and them’s feel seen in the Barbie film.

With so much diversity and inclusion, it’s no wonder the 2023 film rendition of the classic doll is the highest-grossing film of 2023. Barbie teaches lessons about leadership, women’s empowerment, and how the patriarchy hurts everyone. So it came as a shock when people found out that Robbie also produced Saltburn.

Let’s get down to the dirt (get it?) of this strange and suspenseful film. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Oxford, the first 30 minutes scream dark academia. The visually stunning film brings viewers into the lives of the characters and exposes the truth about human nature.

The British class system is on full display at all times. The fabulously wealthy characters are so emotionally disconnected from the events that happen around them that it creates a strange feeling of surrealism in the movie.

The plot of Saltburn, much like Barbie, does talk about an important concept: classism. But it doesn’t talk about it in the way that viewers would expect. Oliver (Barry Keoghan) is a loner at Oxford University and becomes friends with Felix, an heir to a sprawling estate, Saltburn.

Many scenes in Saltburn shock viewers and prompt people to watch the film. There are so many things in this movie that make you feel conflicted,” Robbie stated in an interview with W Magazine. “There are things that disgust you and repulse you as much as they titillate you,” she continued.
