Dua Lipa Opens This Year’s Grammys With a Showstopping Performance

Pop sensation Dua Lipa opened up the 66 Grammy Awards with an exceptional performance, setting the bar high for the rest of the night. She debuted her new single, “Training Season,” mixed with "Houdini,” and, of course, had to throw in bits of “Dance the Night.”

Ahead of her performance, Dua Lipa described it as “intense, strong, and dance-y.” She did not tell a lie.

The now-red-head donned a custom Mugler by Casey Cadwallader leather corset belt top with matching shorts over mesh leggings.

Her performance started with dancers on top of a jungle-gym-like cube, looking like we barged in the middle of their training. Immediately after, the singer emerges from the cube’s center, and rather than getting off of it, she becomes one with the prop, literally.

As she performs, the dancers lift and twist the cube, and the only thing stabilizing her is the arm she’s using to hold onto the prop. Looking as effortless as can be, Dua Lipa continues to hit every lyric, every note, and mark with ease.

After “Training Season,” the singer made her way to the main stage, but not before paying homage to the Barbie hit “Dance the Night,” for which she was nominated that night. On the main stage, she amplified her performance even more (if that’s even possible) with “Houdini.”

She then dropped the mic and hit one of the best dance breaks we’ve seen in some time. Choreographed by Charm La’Donna, who’s also responsible for The Weeknd’s Superbowl Halftime Performance, the choreography was all the things Dua Lipa described and much more. The piece exuded major pop-girl energy, something music lovers have longed for for years.

In the end, she concluded her performance with her signature head nod and a smile; fans knew she had set the bar high and were excited to see what was to follow for the rest of the evening

“Dance the Night” was nominated for Song of the Year and Song Written for Visual Media but did not win either category. However, there’s no time to dwell because Dua Lipa’s next single, “Training Season,” drops on February 15, meaning her third studio album’s release is just around the corner.

In the meantime, fans can replay all of Dua Lipa’s hits on all streaming platforms
