‘Big Foot’ and ‘Hiss’ What’s the Beef?
“HISS” by Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj’s “Big Foot” has created a two-week uproar online. This made fans invested over which track brought the most scathing bars.
Trigger Warning: This story covers sensitive materials such as sexual abuse and gun violence.
There are slews of articles, Reddit posts, and YouTube channels talking about the lines “she like six foot, I call her big foot” and “these h*** don’t be mad at Megan, these h*** be mad at Megan’s Law.” However, where did this drama start?
“Hiss,” which dropped on January 26, discusses many tumultuous events in Stallion’s life. This ranged from ex-sexual partners bringing up old encounters, BBL rumors from Drake, and Tory Lanez shooting.
Nonetheless, the one line that stood out to Nicki Minaj was the “Megan’s Law” verse. Stallion growled over the beat, continuing, “I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start.”
Megan’s law is a federal law that requires law enforcement to make information about registered sex offenders available to the public. Audiences viewed the line as a diss at Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender. Petty was convicted of attempted rape back in April of 1995 for assaulting a 16-year-old girl. He served four years and was arrested in 2020 for failing to register as a sex offender in California.
As you can imagine, this set Minaj on a rampage through social media. Constantly, she is defending her husband, from her radio show to countless Instagram lives. Minaj has shown that she is ten toes down for her man.
During an Instagram live, shortly after “Hiss” went viral on X, Minaj previewed a then-unreleased song referencing Stallion getting shot in the foot by Tory Lanez. Although, things weren’t always messy between Minaj and Stallion. The two even collaborated on a 2019 single titled “Hot Girl Summer.” However, fans suspected their relationship was not all that friendly when Minaj released “Pink Friday 2” in December. One of her lines in the song “FTCU” seemed to reference the infamous Tory Lanez case, and some people speculated it was aimed at Stallion.
Furthermore, the conflict has translated into the charts for the artists. “Hiss” currently is at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making this Stallion’s third single to reach the top spot. Minaj, however, is not having the same success with “Big Foot.” The diss track fell off the Spotify chart to number 141 as of February 2.
As you can see, many events are happening simultaneously, and there is still more to the story. One thing we know for sure. The rap feud is making audiences anticipate what will be next to come.
