Todd Phillip’s newest film, Joker: Folie à Deux, is dropping its first trailer in April, followed by the release in October.

After the success of the first Joker, writer and director Phillips announced the sequel in June 2022. The sequel stars actor Joaquin Phoenix and singer Lady Gaga. Phoenix, known for his starring roles in Joker and Her, continues his role as Arthur “Joker” Fleck. Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta and primarily known as a pop singer, is embracing her acting skills by portraying the role of Harley Quinn. She has previously starred in A Star is Born and House of Gucci. Since this new film is not canon to the DC Extended Universe, Lady Gaga, not Margot Robbie, will portray her.

Pheonix, 49, has been in the spotlight since age 8. His first major films were SpaceCamp (1986) at 12 and Parenthood (1989) at 15. He’s made guest appearances in series’ Hill Street Blues and Murder and She Wrote. However, the actor took a break from acting in 1993 following the death of his older brother, River. Two years later, he returned to acting in the critically acclaimed film, To Die For, starring with Nicole Kidman. He has been in the spotlight since. He’s won an Oscar for his performance in Joker.

Gaga, 37, learned music at an early age. She performed in New York City clubs as a teenager. Gaga began writing songs for artists like Fergie, The Pussycat Dolls, and Britney Spears. Interscope Records signed her in 2007, where she started working on her debut album, The Fame, released in 2008. From that album alone, she had four Billboard #1s. She was nominated for five Grammy’s and won two. Gaga made her acting debut in 2013 with Machete Kills. She has since been in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) and American Horror Story: Hotel (2015) while dropping chart-topping albums.

Joker, set in 1981, follows Arthur Fleck as he aspires to become a famous stand-up comedian while working as a clown to make ends meet and caring for his mother. He has a disorder that makes him laugh uncontrollably.

His villain origin story starts when he is fired and assaulted by three men on the train, but defends himself by killing the men. He eventually kills his mother after finding out he isn’t biologically hers, his ex-colleague for treating him poorly, and a talk show host who made fun of him.

After Fleck was arrested, he is saved by rioters, smearing his face with blood into his iconic Joker grin. The movie ends with him being captured and admitted to Arham State Hospital. He manages to escape while being chased by orderlies.

While little is known about the film’s plot, it will follow Joker and Harley Quinn and the tale of their love story in Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum. Not to mention, it’s also a musical, so get ready for a soundtrack and sing-a-long.

The film is set to release on October 4. Until then, you can catch up and watch the first film on Netflix.
