LE SSERAFIM has officially dropped their third EP. The K-pop stars will also be performing at Coachella this year.

On Feb 19, the group released their third EP, EASY. Their fans, FEARNOTs, showed their love by putting the title track at No. 1 on iTunes in 18 countries. The album hit No. 2 in the US, and the music video for EASY reached 10 million views 13 hours after its release.

The group gets its name from an anagram, “I’m fearless,” and that is present in their lyrics and interviews. The group has five girls: Kim Chae-won (South Korean), Huh Yunjin (Korean-American), Sakura Miyawaki (Japanese), Kazuha Nakamura (Japanese), and Hong Eunchae (Korean).

Member Huh Yunjin has been vocal about her dream to change the industry since her debut introduction video. “I want to create the kind of environment where I can express myself a little more openly rather than have to conceal the real me when I’m on camera.” She told Weverse Magazine.

The songs in the album go hand-in-hand with the other two EPs and add to the group’s narrative of changing things up. Their lyrics vary from uplifting songs about friendship to songs about the reality of being a girl in our current society.

Even though those topics can be ordinary in Western media, when it comes to K-pop, it’s still seen as revolutionary and sometimes controversial in a more traditional society like South Korea’s.

The MV for EASY is also the fastest to reach 25 million views out of all the videos from the group, doing it in under two days. It stirred up some discussion because parts were in a church, and some people thought that was inappropriate. Despite that, they did get permission from the church to record there. The situation is similar to the discussion of what happened with Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for Feather.

Another big achievement is that LE SSERAFIM is the only K-pop group with two songs in the Spotify Global Charts, EASY at #111 and Perfect Night at #160.

On top of that, this April, the girls will perform at Coachella next to other big names like Tyler the Creator, Ice Spice, Grimes, and many more. The first time the festival had a K-pop girl group was just recently in 2019 with BLACKPINK.
