A Look Into Beyoncé’s New Cécred Hair Care Launch
In her Essence cover story, Beyoncé opens up about her experience and personal journey with her hair and how it inspired the new brand, Cécred.
Beyoncé is now a haircare brand owner. On February 20, she officially launched her haircare brand, Cécred, pronounced sacred.
In the March/April issue of ESSENCE, the Grammy-award-winning singer talks about her deep connection to hair care. She got inspiration from her mother, who has her own hair salon.
“That’s my foundation—and I think as an artist, so much of my bold experimentation with hair comes from being inspired by art and sculptures; getting creative with braids; figuring out new techniques; and exploring ways to maintain hair growth with protective styles and wigs, while still feeling fabulous. It all stems from my experiences growing up in my mother’s salon.”

She emphasizes the relationship between hair and herself. From “spending my childhood in my mother’s salon” to “my father applying oil on my scalp to treat my psoriasis,” her personal memories with her hair are very sacred to her, which you can see in the brand’s title. She adds that the creativity of the name came from her own, “So I took the end of my name, Cé, and made it the beginning of the word sacred to create Cécred.” That is what her journey has been.
Beyoncé also stresses the importance of self-expression and identity in hair for Black women.
“We can wear our hair natural, straight, braids, weaves and wigs. There’s power in self-expression and in feeling free to show up as we choose, in whatever hair we choose.” She stated, “For me, joy comes from making myself a priority and making my hair a priority. It is really important for me to make time for the sacred rituals of self-care.”

To celebrate the launch, she held an all-white launch party in L.A., wearing Prabal Gurung’s gorgeous white one-shoulder jumpsuit with the matching cover-up and her iconic honey blonde curls in a half-up half-down style. Around the venue are amplified statues of the products in the line. Actresses Taraji P. Henson, Tia Mowry, and Gabrielle Union attended her launch party to express their support, especially since they all own haircare lines, TPH, 4U, and Flawless.
I think it’s dope that Beyoncé and Cécred invited Tia Mowry, Gabrielle Union and Taraji P. Henson to last night’s launch party.
