Exciting First Look at The Idea of You Film Poster

The poster has been released for The Idea of You, directed by Michael Showalter. The film will star Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine as love interests. 

The Idea of You has been in the works since 2018. However, filming did not begin until October 2022, officially wrapping production in December of the same year. Additionally, casting announcements were not released until 2022 as well. The film will be rated R, and it will be released on Prime Video on May 2.

The film is an adaptation of the 2017 novel The Idea of You by Robinne Lee. The story’s premise revolves around Solène Marchand (Hathaway), a 39-year-old single mother who forms a romantic connection with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Galitzine). Campbell is the lead singer of the fictional boyband “August Moon.” Solène takes her 16-year-old daughter to their concert at Coachella. It is there that she meets Hayes. As a result, their romance blossoms. 

Moreover, many fans speculate if the novel’s main love interest, Hayes Campbell, is based on the pop icon Harry Styles. In a 2020 interview with Vogue, Lee answers this question. She explains, “Inspired is a strong word… I made him into my dream guy… like Prince Harry, meets Harry [Styles].” Essentially, Styles is somewhat of a loose form of inspiration for Lee. However, she takes inspiration from her own life and past relationships, not just from Styles. 

Whether Harry Styles is a source of inspiration or not, Lee clarifies in her Vogue interview that this should not be the main focus. She explains, “This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles… It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.” Additionally, Lee emphasizes that she wants fans to focus on the individual characters and the challenges they grapple with rather than if Harry Styles is the inspiration for the character.
