Halle Bailey‘s second solo single, “In Your Hands,” will be released on March 15.

Bailey took to social media on March 6 to announce that her second solo single, “In Your Hands,” will be released on Friday, March 15. The six-time Grammy nominee has been teasing fans of solo music since late 2021, sharing numerous videos of her working in the studio and brief previews of unreleased songs.

On March 16, 2023, Bailey posted a video of herself playing an electric guitar in the studio over a recorded track featuring her strong vocals on a heartfelt, mid-tempo song. She then displayed her recording software and the various harmonies recorded for what is presumably its chorus.

The Little Mermaid star continued teasing the song earlier this year with a video from her underwater maternity shoot. Bailey reflected on the experience, writing, “Missing my belly already, but I obviously had to take underwater pics.” Today Bailey shared behind-the-scenes clips from her Essence cover shoot, where she wore a beautiful, velvet burgundy Thaihuy dress and other stunning looks. A longer snippet was featured, previewing new lyrics, “Whenever you’re down and suffering / I promise that I’ll be your only friend / Cause I know that the demons come knockin’ / But we will never ever let them in.”

“In Your Hands” comes after “Angel,” the singer’s Grammy-nominated debut solo single was written as a personal self-love anthem to uplift herself and others. In a statement to Pitchfork, Bailey explained, “This song for me is so very special and near and dear to my heart. With everything I’ve gone through the past 3-4 years, suddenly finding myself in this bubble of all these eyes and new opinions, it was easy for me to feel doubt in myself and who I was.”

The “Angel” singer continues, “This song for me was my climb out of those feelings, a mantra and promise to myself that the work I’m doing here on Earth matters and that I matter. I wanted to be able to embrace and be proud of myself and who I am naturally through and through. I hope other Brown and Black girls and everyone in general feel embraced, respected, and inspired hearing the words of this song.”

Bailey told Cosmopolitan in September 2023 that her debut solo EP would be coming out later that year. The singer’s project did not arrive, but an original song entitled “Keep It Movin'” from The Color Purple (2024) soundtrack was released a month before the film. Bailey portrayed Nettie Harris in her younger years. Written by production duo, Nova Wav (Brittany “Chi” Coney and Denisia “Blu June” Andrew), Bailey, and Morten Ristorp, the song won the Black Reel Award for Outstanding Original Song award. Moreover, the song was also shortlisted for Best Original Song at the 96 Annual Academy Awards on March 10.

Furthermore, her sister Chloe Bailey, the other half of the musical duo, Chloe x Halle, released her solo debut album, In Pieces, in March 2023 after a string of singles.

Fans can pre-save “In Your Hands” on Apple Music and Spotify, and follow Bailey on Instagram and X.
