The Dance Moms Cast Reunite for a 2-Hour Special This Spring

Get up, get on the floor because the cast of Dance Moms is leaving it all on the dance floor this May. Late last year, Lifetime teased the special but kept the details under wraps; now, the network has announced that the highly anticipated reunion special will air on May 1.

Along with a release date came a trailer for the explosive special. The trailer opens with the moms and the girls embracing one another, while OG cast member Paige Hyland mentioned, “I can’t tell you the last time we’ve all been in the same room,” to which her sister, Brooke Hyland, replied, “10 years.”

The reunion features four original members of the series, Chloe Lukasiak, Brooke Hyland, Paige Hyland, and mom Kelly Hyland. JoJo and Jess Siwa, Kendall and Jill Vertes, Kalani Hilliker, and Kira Giard were later additions to the series.

They share a champagne toast, and realizing the grade-school dancers we met in 2011 are now old enough to drink is mind-boggling. 

After, they re-introduced themselves one by one: “Chloe, Brooke, Kalani, JoJo Siwa, Kendall, and Paige.” 

As the trailer continues, the mothers and daughters relive some of Dance Moms’ darkest moments, including the physical altercation between Kelly Hyland and dance teacher Abby Lee Miller that changed the series forever.

“The fight happened, and we never danced again,” Brooke stated. “I feel like I ruined your life and your dance career,” her mother Kelly replied. Hiliker recounts feeling like the fight was her fault, given that her sudden appearance on the series riled up the team. She left the set crying, “I don’t know if I can talk about this.”

The trailer jumps to Lukasiak, one of Miller’s biggest targets of wrath, sobbing and telling the host, “I thought I wasn’t enough, like, in every single way.”

It’s important to note that three integral members of the original dance team, Maddie Ziegler, Kenzie Ziegler, and Nia Sioux, are missing. The Zieglers have been open about not wanting to rehash the toxic environment, while at the time of filming, Sioux was in the process of rushing for a sorority. Christi Lukasiak was not present due to other filming obligations but will be hosting a new Dance Moms spinoff series this summer.

There seems to be no bad blood between the original cast members, as days before filming, they all met up at Maddie Ziegler’s home to celebrate Paige Hyland’s birthday; however, their absence seems to ruffle Siwa’s feathers. 

“Them not being here is kind of like ‘let me erase my past, pretend it never happened, shove it down the drain,’ when that’s why you are who you are,” she exploded.

It wouldn’t be Dance Moms without some drama, but it wouldn’t be the series without sweet moments between the girls. They do their iconic 8-count handshake to shake out the nerves and head out on the stage.
