Natasha Lyonne and Simon Baker officially join the star-studded cast of the upcoming film adaptation Klara and the Sun.

Natasha Lyonne and Simon Baker officially join the star-studded cast of the upcoming film adaptation of Klara and the Sun.

The film is an adaptation of the novel, Klara and the Sun written by Kazuo Ishiguro, which came out in 2021. It was a very successful story, earning its spot at number 3 on The New York Times Hardcover Fiction Best Sellers List, and number 1 for the Indie Hardcover Fiction Best Sellers List, gaining many fans in both the US and UK.

Emmy and Golden Globe Nominee Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll) is revealed to be joining the cast along with Simon Baker (The Mentalist). They will work alongside the talented Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) as the lead, as well as Amy Adams (Arrival) and Aran Murphy, Cillian Murphy’s son.

The story will follow Ortega‘s character Klara, an artificial robot friend who helps prevent loneliness. A mother, portrayed by Amy Adams, purchases Klara, and her mysteriously ill daughter Josie begins to adore her new friend. We will see Klara’s journey as she is determined to save Josie, learning the power of being human and feeling heartbreak and love along the way. Natasha Lyonne will embody the shopkeeper where Klara was purchased, however, Simon Baker’s role isn’t known yet.

Lyonne has many nominations and wins under her belt due to her incredible performances in the popular Netflix series Russian Doll and Poker Face. Moreover, she co-created the series Russian Doll, which received 14 Emmy nominations and three wins. She also executive produced her series Poker Face, where she acted as a witty detective, earning her another Emmy nomination and Golden Globe Nomination. Right now, Simon Baker can be watched in Netflix’s new series Boy Swallows Universe and his hit CBS drama The Mentalist.

Taika Waititi will be the director, previously known for directing the blockbuster film, Thor: Ragnarok, along with producers David Heyman of Heyday Films and Garrett Basch. The author of the novel, Ishiguro, will also be an executive producer. Sony 3000 Pictures has acquired the film rights.

Due to filming schedules, it looks like they could be gearing towards a fall release, but an official release date has not yet been announced.

There is so much love on social media for the book already, so now that the final cast release has come out there will definitely be another stir of excitement on social media for the new cast members.
