Cast for this movie includes Zachary Levi who is known for his previous work as the titular character in Shazam!, as well as Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Jemaine Clement (Moana), and Zooey Deschanel (New Girl) just to name a few.
Based on the book of the same name, Harold and the Purple Crayon centers around Harold, a character with a magical purple crayon capable of bringing drawings to life. It is directed by Carlos Saldanha (Ferdinand, Rio) and is slated to release in theaters on August 2. Moreover, a release date for streaming services has not yet been announced.
The poster showcases Levi in a blue work suit surrounded by colorful purple drawings, and features the tagline “Everything he draws is about to get real.”
However, not all viewers are happy about this casting decision. In addition, many users on social media have expressed their discontent with the choice to cast Levi in a role that, according to the book, is supposed to be a little boy.
… why is he an adult zachary levi and not a cool toddler? https://t.co/YDSvwBnmon

I thought Warner Bros. and Disney’s 100th anniversaries were bad, but right now Columbia’s really trying to claim that title for themselves eh?
