Sydney Sweeney Attends Special Screening for New Film Immaculate
On Sunday night, March 17, Sydney Sweeney attended a special screening of her new horror film Immaculate at Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
The new horror film follows a nun named Cecilia (Sweeney), who moves to the gorgeous Italian countryside and joins a remote covenant after receiving an invitation. She left her life behind in America and did not have a home to go back to, so she liked the idea of living there with others. However, the covenant is not what it seems, as it is located in the middle of nowhere, and even the other nuns are skeptical of what goes on behind closed doors.
Holding this special screening at a church was a clever marketing technique from the film’s producers. The film’s official X account tweeted photos of Sweeney and the film director, Michael Mohan. Mohan introduced the film before the screening began. As you can see in the photos, having the audience sit in church pews, a giant cross hanging directly above the screen, and candlelight surrounding them was the best move to watch a horror film that takes place in the same church-like setting.

The film’s production designer, Adam Reamer, did a Catholic style inside, using wood paneling, candles, crosses, and small details that created the perfect creepy and churchlike feel. He aimed to make it as close to realistic as possible but also include smaller details that made it seem both normal and unsettling.
Before the screening, Sweeney and Mohan thanked the audience for being there with them, stating none of this would be happening without all the love and support she had been given.

Fans were excited about the creativity of the unique premiere, with many jealous they weren’t there themselves to see it, along with a few lucky ones who were.

Sweeney recently revealed the story behind her audition process. She auditioned for this role ten years ago, back when she was only sixteen. The project was never finished, and it became a passion project of hers, so she decided to reach out to the writer years later, produced the film herself with her creative vision, and sold it to Neon.

In a red carpet interview with Muse TV Network, Sweeney talks about why she was drawn to do the film and portray the character of Cecilia. The actress mentions how she loves doing all different types of roles, as we can see in the variety of skills she has. She is great at portraying unique characters, as we see in her successful roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus, and Anyone But You. When asked what she loved about filming this new genre, she stated she loved it and enjoyed getting to go into new genres and places she never thought existed. With horror films, she mentions, “there are no rules… or boundaries as to what’s possible.”
Immaculate will be released in theaters on March 22, and you can purchase tickets here. You can watch the official trailer for the film below.
