On March 19, Miley Cyrus was announced as one of many 2024 Disney Legend Honor recipients. The ceremony will take place on August 11 at the D23 Expo.

Miley Cyrus was announced as a Disney Legend Honor recipient on March 19. According to the official D23 website, the Walt Disney Company has been honoring individuals who have made great contributions to the company since 1987. Plaques in honor of the recipients are hung in the Disney Legends Plaza, located at The Walt Disney Studios, which was built to commemorate the 75 year anniversary of the company.

Other 2024 honorees include Angela Bassett, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Harrison Ford, and Kelly Ripa. Ryan Seacrest is set to host the event, which will be filled with “heartwarming tributes to each of the honorees, along with special guests, performances, and a legendary production like no other,” The Walt Disney Company website states. The ceremony will be held on August 11, part of the three-day expo, D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.

At 31 years old, Cyrus is the youngest recipient and the first of her generation to receive the Disney Legend honor. Before becoming a two-time Grammy-winning artist, Cyrus embodied the titular role of Hannah Montana. Portraying the life of a regular teenage girl by day and a pop sensation by night, the program premiered in March 2006 to the largest Disney Channel Original Series audience, drawing in an average of 4.4 million viewers per episode. Hannah Montana‘s continued success led to five studio albums, three went number 1 on the Billboard Hot 200, the Best of Both Worlds Tour, which earned $70.6 million worldwide, and a theatrical filmHannah Montana: The Movie.

Moreover, Cyrus continued her work with Disney, voicing the character of Penny in the feature film Bolt, released in 2008. The film’s original song, “I Thought I Lost You,” performed by Cyrus and John Travolta, was nominated for Best Original Song at the 81 Golden Globes. For her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, Cyrus returned to her Disney roots for a documentary concert special titled Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions), performing songs from the album and discussing their creation.

The special was released to Disney+ on March 10, 2023. Cyrus won the Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance Grammys for the album’s lead single, “Flowers.”

We congratulate Cyrus and the other incredible honorees. The full list can be viewed on The Walt Disney Company website.
