Timothée Chalamet Seen as Bob Dylan on the Set of New Biopic
Over the weekend, photos of Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan were released while filming the upcoming biopic A Complete Unknown.
A Complete Unknown will follow a young Dylan, portrayed by Chalamet, as he emerges into the folk music scene in New York City during the 1960s, following his move from Minnesota.
The Dune actor has just been seen in costume for the film, surprising fans. The first look features Chalamet walking in a sunny New York City, dressed as a 17-year-old Dylan. He is seen wearing a worn-out yellow scarf, a similar color of warm gloves, a flannel, and a thick army green coat. Those are paired with blue jeans, a yellow backpack, and a newsboy cap. In addition to the outfit, he is carrying around a guitar.

Chalamet was first announced to be cast for this role back in 2020. Unfortunately, production stopped due to multiple circumstances, such as COVID-19 and the SAG-AFTRA strike. It has finally started back up, and filming has begun in New York City and New Jersey.
James Mangold is set to direct, receiving support and detailed notes for the script from Dylan, who will executive produce. Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York) originally wrote the screenplay, which Mangold will be using. Mangold describes the film as an ensemble piece about a moment in Dylan’s music career, as a teenager who hitchhikes to another state to visit and sing for his idol Woody Guthrie, who is sick in the hospital.
Along with Dylan’s help, Chalamet has been getting as close to his character as possible. In January, he even visited Dylan’s old high school to talk to current drama students. He has researched everything about the singer’s life, doing his best to place himself in it.

It is confirmed that Chalamet will sing his songs in the film, as audiences saw recently in his successful Wonka performance. He will be coached by the same vocal coach who worked with Austin Butler during Elvis.
More cast members will reportedly join Chalamet in the film, including Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Nick Offerman as Alan Lomax, and Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash. Benedict Cumberbatch was originally supposed to be cast, but Edward Norton stepped in to portray Pete Seeger due to production delays.
