Zayn Malik Announces New Album Room Under the Stairs

Zayn Malik has announced his new album, Room Under the Stairs. It will be released on May 17.

This will be Malik’s fourth studio album. He released his first solo album, Mind of Mine and Mind of Mine Deluxe, in 2016. Following that, he came out with Icarus Falls in 2018, then Nobody is Listening in 2021. 

Malik entered the public eye when he auditioned for the British competition series X Factor. He went in as a solo contestant, but when he made it to the “Bootcamp Stage,” judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, and Louis Walsh decided he would work better in a group. That is ultimately when One Direction was formed. The group consisted of Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan. While the group did not win the competition series, they still soared in popularity, eventually selling out arena tours worldwide.

One Direction was formed in 2010 and stayed together until 2016. However, Malik was the first member to leave in 2015. He eventually started to embark on his solo career. The singer released his first single, “Pillowtalk” in 2016. It is a part of his album, Mind of Mine. The single has been a large success for Malik and his solo career, debuting number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Additionally, to promote his new album, Malik appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the promotion, the singer walks onto the stage and hands Fallon a note. On the note, he has Jimmy Fallon announce his first single off of Room Under the Stairs. The single will be “What I Am.” It will come out on Friday, March 15. 

Malik has a very successful music career post One Direction. Billboard states his first single, “Pillowtalk,” spent 24 weeks on the Hot 100 chart. He was also featured on the soundtrack of the Fifty Shades Darker (2017) film. He collaborated with pop sensation Taylor Swift on the song “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.” The single spent 23 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and peaked at number 2.
