Atlanta native and rapper Quavo is making moves to give back to his community. In partnership with The Rocket Group, he has announced a significant initiative to combat gun violence and raise awareness throughout Atlanta.

On Wednesday, March 20, Huncho announced the Spark Grants initiative, supporting ten organizations, each receiving $10,000. The initiative aims to minimize gun violence and promote awareness across the city. The grants are set to be distributed on June 18.

This date holds significance in the rapper’s life as it’s the birthday of Quavo’s late nephew, Takeoff. The Migos rapper tragically lost his life at the age of 28 in a shooting incident. Coincidentally, the date also aligns with National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

Last year, Quavo visited Washington, D.C., to discuss strategies with Vice President Kamala Harris to combat gun violence and reduce the prevalence of weapons on the streets. The White House immediately took action, announcing plans for the Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

Quavo expressed, “I am honored to launch this grant program to honor Takeoff and the countless families that have been affected by gun violence.”

Moreover, the Rocket Foundation will distribute Spark grants to local organizations committed to curbing community violence in Atlanta. Organizations have until April 21 to submit their applications for the grant. Subsequently, a total of $100,000 will be awarded on June 18.

The tenth recipient will be chosen by public vote, accessible through The Rocket Foundation’s website.

The establishment of The Rocket Foundation in 2022 by Quavo is a tribute to Takeoff’s legacy, aiming to support programs dedicated to preventing gun violence. Learn more about The Rocket Foundation here.
