Emily Ratajkowski Debuts Her New Divorce Ring
If you’re getting a divorce and don’t know what to do with your engagement ring, Emily Ratajkowski might have an idea.
Following her split from Sebastian Bear-McClard, Ratajkowski has decided to turn her engagement ring into something new. She revealed the once-combined ring, which featured a princess cut and pear-shaped diamond now separated into two rings.
Ratajkowski was able to remake her ring with the help of Alison Chemla, who is the creative director of the jewelry brand Alison Lou.
During an interview with Vogue, the model talked about the importance of keeping your engagement ring “The rings represent my own personal evolution, I don’t think a woman should be stripped of her diamonds just because she’s losing a man,” she stated.
The model discussed that she got this idea from Stephanie Danler’s story The Unravelers in The Paris Review. From multiple pictures posted to the model’s Instagram feed, we can see that Ratajkowski now wears one of them on a different finger than previously, with the pear-shaped diamond on her pinkie finger and the princess cut resting still on her ring finger, but has new additions added, such as more trapezoid stones used to make it sparkle more.
“(It) includes the story of her grandmother’s snake ring—a ring that is made up of the different stones from her various marriages,” mentioned Ratajkowski, who described the recreation of the rings as a “fun project” to take on “amidst a hugely transitional period in my life.”
She continued, “I loved the idea of a ring unabashedly representing the many lives a woman has lived.”
Ratajkowski let Vogue know that she still has strong feelings about the rings. “ I love them so much I haven’t been able to take them off — I’ve been sleeping with them on.”
“The ring became symbolic to me—some kind of token or evidence of my life becoming my own again,” she expressed. “Somehow, these rings feel like a reminder that I can make myself happy in ways I never imagined,” she added.
