Don’t be fooled. Smosh stars Courtney Miller and Shayne Topp are officially married. The comedians announced their marriage on April 1, leaving fans questioning if the news was a prank, but they have since confirmed that it is real.

Miller and Topp took to Instagram to reveal they tied the knot. The pair shared photos of their elopement and special memories from their relationship, captioning the post, “Obviously. 3.29.24.”

In the post, viewers see Topp sport a brown suit while Miller stuns in a short white dress. The pair are photographed in a field of orange flowers, holding hands, and overwhelmed with joy. There are also older pictures, including a proposal.

The news confused fans who were unsure if it was real or an elaborate prank. Miller and Topp have been the subject of “shipping” for many years, with viewers hoping to see them get together, but never publicly confirmed their relationship before the announcement.

Given that the news broke on April Fools’ Day, some speculated that the pair could trick fans with a planned-out scheme. Smosh has pulled off other similar pranks in the past.

However, many others believed the post to be legitimate. Familiar with the goofy nature of the couple, viewers didn’t put it past them to announce their marriage on April Fools’ Day to get a reaction.

The responses from Topp and Miller’s co-stars further fueled the online speculation. The couple’s co-workers congratulated them in the post’s comments and on their Instagram stories.

The YouTube powerhouse then continued the frenzy, uploading a podcast episode titled “The Tell All Episode | Smoush Mouth 40,” with the thumbnail reading “Shayne’s Big Secret.” Listeners tuned in to find Topp’s co-stars, Chanse McCrary and Angela Giarratana, impersonating Topp and his co-host, Amanda Lehan-Canto.

Throughout the episode, McCrary and Giarratana hinted at the news but made no actual statements confirming or denying it. In the end, Topp made an appearance, teasing, “I think it’s the elephant in the room, which I feel like I need to say something about,” only to repeat the same punchline used in the episode’s introduction, “I can finally do the splits.”

In promotion for the episode, Smosh made a post teasingly captioned, “Been offline today, what happened?”

The comedy channel also released a clip on Instagram of Miller discussing getting married, which had previously been kept secret. Smosh joked in the post’s caption, “we heard y’all wanted the uncensored cut for some reason?”

Fans were still unsure, even with many sources confirming that the duo married. Some explained in the comments of Miller and Topp’s post that they wouldn’t believe the news until they saw photos of the pair kissing.

In response, Topp unveiled a photo of the couple locking lips, writing, “my first kiss.” Miller also uploaded a picture, adding, “Yeah.”

Nevertheless, some maintained their doubts because the photos were still posted on April 1. Miller alluded to the many people waiting for April 2 to be sure as she posted the next day. She shared more photos of the happy couple with the caption, “Happy April 2nd.”

To confirm the news further, Miller also told People. “Shayne and I indeed got married on March 29, at the Santa Barbara Courthouse,” the comedian revealed. “It’s so wonderful to be married to my best friend,” she remarked.

Regarding the reveal date, Miller explained, “We planned to make an announcement about our marriage on April Fools’ Day, and it was hilarious.”

The actress also touched on finally going public with the relationship. “It’s nice to finally have our relationship out in the open,” Miller confessed. She adds, “And the fans’ reactions have been very heartwarming.”

In an additional hilarious twist, Topp joked about the article being how his castmate, Lehan-Canto, finds out about the news. There is a running bit about the magazine being the actress’ only online news source.

With the announcement confirmed, fans no longer hesitated to express their love for the couple. They congratulated the comedians online and wished the pair nothing but happiness.

In response to fans’ support, Miller replied, “Thank you so much for all of the love over these last few days and for embracing something we’ve kept private for a long time. It’s a weight off!” The online star continued, “We appreciate your respect of our private life and will share what we feel comfortable with in our own time. Love you, internet!”
