The hashtag #TrustWomenRestoreRoe gained traction back in January, marking the 51 anniversary of Roe v. Wade, on X.

This surge in popularity is linked to Vice President Kamala Harris’s visit to Wisconsin. It marked the first day of her national tour aimed at garnering support for reproductive rights. During her visit, Harris stood before a banner stating, “TRUST WOMEN.”

Harris highlighted the consequences of former President Trump’s appointment of three Supreme Court Justices. They actively worked to overturn Roe v. Wade—a fact Trump openly took pride in, according to recent comments.

In her impassioned speech, Harris questioned this pride, challenging the audience, “Proud that women across our nation are suffering? Proud that women have been robbed of a fundamental freedom? Proud that doctors could be thrown in prison for caring for their patients, that young women today have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers? How dare he.”

Roe v. Wade was a historic U.S. Supreme Court case from 1973. It established a woman’s constitutional right to choose abortion based on the right to privacy. The decision legalized abortion nationwide but allowed states to regulate it. This case significantly influenced the ongoing debates on abortion rights in the United States.

In June 2022, the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade because the right to abortion was not “deeply rooted in this Nation’s history or tradition.” It was also not considered a right.

As a response to Harris’s remarks, the public gathered on X to share their opinions on this matter. The platform served as a virtual arena for individuals to engage in discussions and articulate their perspectives on the reproductive rights debate sparked by Harris’s visit and Trump’s policy decisions.

On January 20, the March for Life took place in Washington D.C., with thousands of anti-abortion activists marching towards the U.S. Capitol, aiming to maintain the 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Additionally, individuals holding anti-abortion views responded in significant numbers.

Looking ahead to the upcoming presidential election, abortion laws are expected to be a significant issue. The Biden administration has been concentrating on ballot initiatives related to abortion. Additionally, X also remains a key platform for individuals to share their views on abortion, actively contributing to public discourse and influencing policy discussions.
