Ludmilla displayed her Brazilian style in her performance and made history as the first Afro-Latina on the main stage of Coachella.

Beyoncé introduced the singer to the festival with a recording that stated, “From Rio, Brazil, to California, all the way down to Coachella. Ladies and gentlemen, Ludmilla.” She has been a long-time fan of Beyoncé, even adopting the name of Mc Beyoncé at the beginning of her career. Later, she became closer to Beyoncé and received Queen Bey’s blessing on her Coachella performance with the audio.

Afterward, Ludmilla demonstrated all the different music styles she produces in Brazil. Her songs range from the rising genre of Brazilian Funk to Pagode, one of the biggest genres in Brazil. She took over the stage and brought her Afro-Latina flair to the festival, combining her hits from her 12-year career, her newest songs, and some mashups of her music with other songs.

In addition, the introduction audio included a powerful message from Brazil’s member of the Chamber of Deputies, Erika Hilton. Hilton is an activist for Black and LGBTQ+ rights. Also, she was the first Black and Trans Deputy elected in Brazil’s history. “This is my house, and in my house, I will not tolerate any type of hatred, racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia or misogyny. This a space of self-valorization, of self-freedom,” part of the monologue stated. “Respect the most listened Black woman in Latin America, Ludmilla in the house.”

On top of that, the artist is proudly bisexual. She has been married to Brunna Gonçalves since 2019, and they have both become tokens of the LGBTQ+ community in Brazil. They met because Gonçalves was one of Ludmilla’s dancers, but she has since resigned from dancing and is a full-time influencer. Also, the singer has a couple of songs dedicated to Gonçalves, and part of her set focuses on her. During that part of the set, Gonçalves made her comeback to the stage and performed next to her wife.

After her set, Ludmilla ran into Lauryn Hill and YG Marley. They stopped to talk to her, and both praised her performance.

Ludmilla is performing again on Sunday, April 21, on the Main Stage. You can watch the Coachella live performance streams here.
