Doja Cat made history at Coachella 2024 as the festival’s first-ever female rap headliner. Here’s everything you need to know about her ground-breaking set.

According to NBC, Doja Cat is the second Black woman to headline the festival. Beyonce was first, headlining in 2018.

Throughout her performances, she leaned into her trademark eccentricity. Dancing yetis, a mud pit, and a fake T-Rex skeleton kept fans enthralled, in addition to her powerful vocals.

Doja Cat strayed away from the greatest hits approach some other Coachella artists take. Instead, she focused on songs from her most recent album, Scarlet, and its deluxe version. “Demons,” “Gun,” and “Acknowledge Me” were just a few additions to the setlist.

She also used this opportunity to perform some recent collaborations, like “MASC” with Teezo Touchdown and “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!” with A$AP Rocky. Both of these guests, along with 21 Savage, joined her on the Coachella stage during her set.

Sunday, April 14, had the coldest weather of Weekend 1, but Doja Cat brought scorching relief to the desert night. Despite temperatures sitting in the high 50s, she spent most of her set in a white fur two-piece, even though she began her show in a white hazmat suit.

Throughout the performance, her costume changes matched her eccentric vibe. First, she brought a long white-blonde wig with a hair-lined bikini and fur boots to match. Her next outfit was a crop top and shorts set that appeared to be made out of plastic. To the relief of the cold audience, she then donned a faux-fur jacket. Finally, she concluded the show with sparkly tights and a shimmering body suit, which ended up covered in mud.

Doja Cat’s Coachella performance was one for the history books. She uploaded a few segments on her YouTube channel, which you can watch below.
