This year’s Met Gala is only one week away. On May 6, celebrities will flock to New York City to celebrate the museum’s new Costume Institute.

This year’s focus is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The 250-piece exhibit explores themes of fragility and femininity, all through the lens of nature. According to the museum’s website, “The exhibition will breathe new life into these storied objects through creative and immersive activations designed to convey the smells, sounds, textures, and motions of garments that can no longer directly interact with the body.”
Coinciding with this, the dress code for the gala itself is “The Garden of Time.” Inspired by a 1962 J.G. Ballad short story, Anna Wintour communicated that guests should reflect elements of fleeting beauty in their outfits.
Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, discussed his intentions behind this exhibit with The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a different way to appreciate the ephemerality of fashion. Many are pieces we normally would never show. But even that state of demise should be seen and appreciated.”
For the gala itself, the committee recently announced four new co-chairs. Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny will serve alongside Wintour to make the event run smoothly. Recently, a rumored guest list dropped with several star-studded names. However, according to Glamour, Rihanna is the only celebrity with confirmed attendance.

“I’m coming in as an extra this year,” the singer stated on E!News. “I’m just coming for dinner,” Rhianna continued.
