Meryl Streep Is The Festival De Cannes Guest Of Honor
In the 77 edition of the Festival de Cannes, Meryl Streep will receive the Festival’s Honorary Palme d’Or. Streep is making her comeback after 35 years.
Since 1955, the festival has recognized the outstanding members of the film industry internationally. Other people who have received the recognition include Jane Fonda, Catherine Deneuve, Forest Whitaker, and Jodie Foster. In addition, the winner of the honorary award last year was Michael Douglas.
“I am immeasurably honored to receive the news of this prestigious award. To win a prize at Cannes, for the international community of artists, has always represented the highest achievement in the art of filmmaking. To stand in the shadow of those who have previously been honored is humbling and thrilling in equal part,” Streep expressed in her statement.
Additionally, Streep only attended the festival once in 1989. She won the Best Actress award for her performance as Lindy in Evil Angels, and she will have her anticipated comeback in the 77 edition of the event.

“Because she has spanned almost 50 years of cinema and embodied countless masterpieces, Meryl Streep is part of our collective imagination, our shared love of cinema,” stated Iris Knobloch and Thierry Frémaux, the president and the director of the festival, respectively.
She completely transforms into her character in every role that she portrays. On top of that, Streep has received 21 Oscar nominations, and she won it three times, in addition to being a three-time Emmy winner. Also, she was up for six Grammys but still is yet to win any, and she was nominated for one Tony award. Because of that, Streep is on the road to becoming an EGOT winner.

Furthermore, this year’s jury is led by Barbie’s director, Greta Gerwig, and includes Eva Green, Ebru Ceylan, Kore-eda Hirokazu, and Killers of the Flower Moon, Lily Gladstone. Gerwig and Streep have worked together in the 2019 version of Little Women.
The festival is located in Cannes, France, and it will be held from May 14 to May 25. More information on the festival, including where to watch it live-streamed, is available on the official website.
