Normani Announces New Single, ‘Candy Paint’
Normani has announced the second single, “Candy Paint” from her upcoming album, Dopamine. This follows the release of the lead single, “1:59” featuring Gunna.
The musician’s debut album, Dopamine will be released on June 14. Fans have been waiting for the news of this album since the release of her single, “Motivation” in 2019. The anticipation has caused much excitement for Normani’s new music.
Normani first entered the spotlight when she auditioned for the competition, X Factor in 2012. During the competition, the “Love Lies” singer was placed in the girl group, Fifth Harmony. It consisted of the members, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Camila Cabello. After finishing third in the competition series, the group signed with Simon Cowell’s label Syco Records and Epic Records. They became one of the biggest pop girl groups, with all three of their studio albums reaching the top five of the Billboard 200. However, in 2018, they went on an indefinite hiatus to work on their solo projects.

Shortly before she departed from Fifth Harmony, Normani featured on Khalid’s 2018 single, “Love Lies.” The song features as the soundtrack to the film, Love, Simon (2018). Upon its release, “Love Lies” reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Moreover, it was certified 5x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
In October 2018, the “Work from Home” singer released an EP with producer, Calvin Harris titled, Normani x Calvin Harris. It features two songs, “Checklist” featuring Wizkid and “Slow Down.” In 2019, the singer collaborated on Sam Smith’s single, “Dancing with a Stranger.” This earned a “Song of the Year” nomination at the 2020 Brit Awards.
“Motivation” served as Normani’s debut single as a solo artist after parting ways from Fifth Harmony. The song was written by Ariana Grande, Savan Kotecha, Max Martin, and Normani. Additionally, it was produced by Ilya. After the release, the single was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It also debuted at number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, the song received a nomination for Song of the Year at the 2019 Brit Awards. Normani later released a remix of the single that featured rapper, 21 Savage.
The premiere of “Motivation” was also accompanied by a music video. The video showcases Normani’s dance skills as she navigates through a Los Angeles neighborhood. Furthermore, it received a nomination for the MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography.
