It is time for the Met Gala, and we can’t wait to see what the biggest stars are wearing for “The Garden of Time.”

The 2024 Met Gala will premiere May 6 in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Costume Institute exhibit at the museum, titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” will present 250 rarely seen items drawn from the Costumes Institute’s permanent collection.

This year’s Met Gala celebrates the Institutes “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the dress code is “The Garden of Time.” The work will feature 400 years worth of fashion history, showcasing some of the biggest names, such as Schiaparelli, Dior, and Givenchy. The gala will even feature some garments too fragile to be worn again. The Charles Fredrick Worth Ball gown from 1877 will be displayed via light projection, CGI, and video animation. Furthermore, some of the more delicate items will be exhibited in glass coffins that match the sleeping beauty theme.

No, the theme has nothing to do with the Sleeping Beauty film or the princess in general. However, it is about the delicate state in which many garments intended for display are maintained. Many of the items are no longer wearable and have been hidden away to preserve them as long as possible. In addition, the theme “The Garden of Time” is based on a poem written by J.G. Ballard in 1962.

The Wendy Yu curator, Andrew Bolton, who is in charge of the costume exhibit, stated in an interview with Vogue, “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.” He continued, “One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.” Many of Bolton’s fashion shows deal with science fiction, with nature at the center.

The chairs for this year are made up of people who thrive in their respective fields: Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, and Anna Wintour will all serve as official co-chairs. Honorary chairs for the evening are Loewe’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson, and TikTok CEO Shou Chew.
