Justine Skye, released her first EP, Bare With Me, as an independent artist in 2020 and since then has been working to achieve commercial success.

“Before I signed, everything was very authentic and based off of just the passion of it all, and now that’s what I’m doing again. I’m still giving it some structure because, obviously, you need some structure in life, but I’m going with the flow and I’m trusting myself for the first time, and being more raw,” Skye explained in a 2020 interview with Aol.

The 28-year-old first signed a deal with Atlantic Records in 2013, after gaining a following on Tumblr for releasing multiple covers and original songs. In 2016, she signed with Roc Nation and released her debut album. Since regaining her independence as an artist, Skye released Space and Time in 2021, and Dark Side in 2023.

“Even if no one likes it, I’m still in love with it. I always used to look for validation for everything that I did, but now I’m in a place where I’m like, I don’t care what you think about this because I know it’s dope,” the singer stated about her new music.

She continued, “It’s very much me going back to the sound that I kind of started with, but just evolving that. If I had to describe it, it’s very where I’m from. My family is Jamaican, so that’s in my roots and I’m from East Flatbush, which is very Caribbean-heavy, but also of the new-age of Brooklyn. It’s then and now, and it’s just the evolution of me.”

In 2022, Skye’s 2014 song, “Collide,” featuring Tyga went viral on TikTok which significantly boosted the song’s streams. “Collide’s” popularity prompted Skye to rerelease it along with a solo version, and a sped-up remix on her 2023 album, Dark Side. In March 2023, “Collide” was certified gold with 500,000 certified units.

Currently, all three versions of “Collide” are her top streamed songs on Spotify followed by “Know Myself,” and “Whip It Up.” It seems the talented singer still has a way to go on her journey as a musician, and we are rooting for her success. You can stream her music here.
