Iconic California rapper and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg will join Season 26 of The Voice as a first-time coach.

With The Voice being renewed for another season, new judges are being brought on the Emmy-winning program. On May 13, it was announced that Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire would return as coaches, and Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé would make their coaching debut.

The news comes as the historic Season 25 comes to a close. For the first time in the program’s 13 years, two musicians, duo Dan + Shay, occupied one coach slot. This new coaching method has excited fans, sparking curiosity about how The Voice will further reinvent itself. During its 25-season run, the competition has hosted some of music’s biggest names as coaches including Ariana Grande, Usher, Shakira, and Pharell Williams. Snoop previously served as Mega Mentor on Season 21.

Snoop, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., first made waves in the music industry with his mixtapes, one of which caught Dr. Dre’s attention. The duo then collaborated on the Grammy winner’s first solo single, “Deep Cover” and his debut album, The Chronic, in 1992. Since Doggystyle, Snoop’s debut album, the rapper has accumulated 17 Grammy nominations and has sold over 23 million albums domestically. For his performance in the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper received a Primetime Emmy Award.

Despite a lucrative, expansive career, the “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” rapper has kept busy with many projects, with fans dubbing them his “side quests.” In October 2018, Snoop released a cookbook, From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipies from the Boss Dogg’s Kitchen. Selling over a million copies, the book contains “50 recipes inspired by Snoop’s family staples and favorite comfort foods.”

More recently in 2021, Snoop joined Def Jam Recordings as the new Executive Creative and Strategic Consultant, “a role allowing him to strategically work across the label’s executive team and artistic roster,” according to HipHopDX. The following year, the American Music Award recipient acquired the music label Death Row Records, where he released his latest album, BODR.

Though fans will have to wait to see Snoop on The Voice, they can tune in to the two-part Season 25 finale live on NBC on May 20 and 21. They can also catch up on this season’s episodes on NBC’s website. Visit Snoop’s website for merchandise and updates.
