With only 11 songs, Olivia Rodrigo’s debut solo album, SOUR, has become the most streamed female album in Spotify history.

Three years ago, Olivia Rodrigo released her debut album, SOUR, and the world erupted. From her first single, “Drivers License,” listeners worldwide fell in love with the raw and emotional storytelling she packed within her lyrics.

Three years later, Rodrigo has released two albums, SOUR and GUTS. Last July, the SOUR album reached new heights when it became the fastest album to reach 10 billion streams. SOUR has now become the most streamed female album in Spotify history, with over 12.28 billion streams.

Dua Lipa previously held the number-one spot with her self-titled debut album, Dua Lipa, which featured hit songs such as “New Rules,” “IDGAF,” and “Blow Your Mind (MWAH).”

The singer’s debut album now has the number-one spot in the Spotify rankings. SOUR is a record-breaking album, and that is an understatement.

It has won three Grammy awards, is four times RIAA Platinum certified, and all of the songs are RIAA certified, which is the fastest album to achieve this.

Being the most-streamed female album on Spotify is a huge achievement. If you look at the rankings of most streamed albums regardless of gender, however, her ranking is impressive.

While the top five positions are all male artists, SOUR falls at number six as the most streamed album of all time. Right above it is The Weeknd’s After Hours. Amazingly enough, it is projected that she will clinch the number five spot and surpass The Weeknd in just 15 days, making her the only female artist in the top five.

It will be interesting to see how SOUR and GUTS climb in the Spotify rankings. Rodrigo’s ability to be so vulnerable and capture the complexities of love and loss from a teenage girl’s perspective is why she is a massive success.
