Turbo and Gunna Reconnect To Make New Music
Turbo takes on the architect role for Gunna’s One of Wun album, serving as the LP’s executive producer.
Following Gunna’s release date from prison in December 2022, he paired up with Turbo. The hitmaker and the Atlanta native reconnected, producing Gunna’s first album.
The album is titled a Gift & a Curse, named due to his Alford Plea deal in the YSL RICO case. Throughout the album, Gunna draws from his life experiences, intertwining tales of overseas yacht parties and fantasies of orgies.
Moreover, the Georgia-bred rapper discusses being the epitome of style at the Met Gala and casually dropping $50,000 for a trainer in his lyrical verses.
The duo was inseparable last year, whether physically together or conversing over the phone when they couldn’t meet, even more so when they were working together on the album. Turbo claimed, “Man, I’ve seen Gunna every day. I’ve talked to Gunna every day pertaining to this album.”
Turbo, from the picturesque backyard of his L.A. mansion, tells Billboard that coast-to-coast studio sessions from L.A. to Miami fueled One of Wun.
Moreover, the Grammy-nominated producer estimates they recorded a total of 100 songs. His favorite sessions occurred in the middle of the ocean, a first for Turbo, on a friend’s yacht off the coast of Florida. Furthermore, the yacht had a studio built inside, perfectly matching Gunna’s luxury taste level and setting a unique vibe.
Turbo asserted, “It was more fulfilling than any album,” he states about this new project. The producer mentioned, “We’re on the other side of some little rut. Now we can have fun. We can sit in the studio all night how we used to, and it’s not as serious. The music is portraying the same thing.”
Gunna is anticipated to achieve another top-five album on the Billboard 200 with One of Wun.
In addition, the rapper has high praise from numerous sources. Industry veteran Elliott Wilson praised Gunna as a “top five MC in the game right now.”
Shifting his attention to his upcoming solo project, Turbo teases a new single set to release very soon. In addition, he will be executive producing SleazyWorldGo’s debut album, slated to arrive later this year via Island Records.
