Joan Vassos Announced as the First Golden Bachelorette
It’s her time to shine. After months of speculation and waiting, ABC announced that Joan Vassos will be the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. Her journey to find love will air on the network this fall.
Last fall, Vassos captured America’s hearts as one of the contestants on Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor. Now, she will get her chance to find love as The Golden Bachelorette.
The spinoff series to the original Bachelor franchise aims to show that you can find love at any age. The single senior is a 61-year-old school administrator from Rockville, Maryland.
She revealed on Turner’s season that she tragically lost her husband to pancreatic cancer. The pair’s shared experience of losing a spouse brought them closer together, and they started building a strong connection. Vassos proved to be a frontrunner from the first episode.
The contestant had a very emotional journey on The Golden Bachelor. On her one-on-one date with Turner, she revealed it was a big sacrifice for her to be there. The bachelorette’s daughter had just given birth fifteen days prior, and she was struggling quite a bit.
The morning after their one-on-one date, she received an urgent message from her daughter, who was struggling with postpartum depression. Vassos then made the difficult decision to leave on her own accord for the sake of her family.
With Vassos as a frontrunner on the season, the news devastated fans.
Joan left on her own accord. She is such an amazing person. And I could tell how hard that was for her to do. But her family is amazing. And Joan you ARE significant. To so many people. You will find again. And boy you’ve got a strong family with you in DC #GoldenBachelor https://t.co/Hc53w08vZ2 pic.twitter.com/vLOkRrhoMs
