Iconic Canadian singer Nelly Furtado is back and better than ever with her new single “Love Bites” featuring Tove Lo and SG Lewis after a 6-year hiatus.

Furtado has been a beloved name in music since she started making a name for herself in the early 2000s. Collaborating with innovative producer Timbaland, she created some of the most recognizable hits. In the last few years, her music has regained popularity from a younger audience through TikTok. Videos often feature some of her biggest hits, like “Say It Right,” “Promiscuous,” and “Maneater.”

Since then, she featured on a few songs with other artists but hasn’t released any solo music. However, that changed on May 22 when the “I’m Like a Bird” singer announced the song’s release on X and surprised fans with her unlikely collaboration partners.

The artist released “Love Bites,” a collaboration with fellow artist Tove Lo and music producer SG Lewis. Lo is a Swedish singer-songwriter best known for her songs “Habits (Stay High)” and “Talking Body.” Lewis, an English producer and artist, releases his own music and is best known for producing tracks for artists like Dua Lipa, Clairo, Lucky Daye, Frances, and Raye.

“It reminded me of being a teenager in Toronto, going to raves with my water bottle,” Furtado expressed about the track in an Apple Music interview.

The vibrant new hit has come just in time for summer and will undoubtedly get people on the dance floor. The singer explained her inspiration in a press release. stating, “I felt called back to music from the DJ community… DJs were remixing my songs at concerts, clubs, and on social media, and I realized how much people like to dance and escape to my music. It’s the healthiest vice you can have, and I love the opportunity to write music that lets people escape more than anything.”

After years of waiting, Furtado’s audience can be ecstatic to know she’s back in the studio and looking forward to new music. Until then, stream “Love Bites” on Spotify and watch the official visualizer for the song below.
