Opening up with what appears to be another night in the city, sanitation workers wrap up their shifts, but not before they’re startled by a rat infestation (voiced by longtime friend Elizabeth Gillies.)

Immediately, the video cuts to Grande concocting a love potion when the news anchors, portrayed by Brandy and Monica (who sang the classic song of the same title), cut to a press conference with Mayor Max Starling. If you’re wondering, yes, that is You’s Penn Badgley as Mayor Starling.

Coincidentally, the mayor discusses getting rid of the biggest threat terrorizing the city – rats. “F*** those rats,” Grande swiftly states. As she’s admiring the mayor and his newfound plan to release stray cats into the streets to combat the infestation, a cat crawls through the window (Joe Goldberg would’ve met his match) and knocks over the love potion, made specifically for Mayor Starling.

After successfully scraping up what’s left of the potion and sewing up a Catwoman costume, much like the stray cat from earlier, Grande creeps through the window of Mayor Starling’s window.

Much to his initial dismay, he couldn’t help but be fascinated with this being – she didn’t even have to pull out the potion for him to fall in love. Before sharing what we think could be a kiss, the video cuts to the title card, but given the credits scene, we could assume they live happily ever after.

After the success of Grande’s heartwrenching “we can’t be friends” video, fans had high expectations and it’s safe to say the singer did not disappoint. Fans were mesmerized by the concept, art style, and creativity of it all, something they’ve missed from current music videos.

Catwoman herself, Halle Berry, commended the video, taking to X, stating, “Get it, Ari! Living.”

For weeks, fans have speculated an appearance from Badgley, given Grande’s obsession with Gossip Girl, her recent mutual social media following with Kelly Rutherford, and the drawings hinted in the teaser videos. Although they expected a Gossip Girl-esque video on the Upper East Side, fans could agree that the artist and her team cooked up a video that will indeed earn some accolades in the coming year.
