Skylar Simone (formerly Skylar Stecker) has recently signed to Def Jam Recordings where she released her newest song “Shiver.”

Long-time fans remember her song “How Did We” from the teen film Everything, Everything. The “Superman” singer also appeared on the Disney series, Austin & Ally. Under her birth name, Simone was signed to Cherrytree Records where she put out five albums between 2014-2022. After that, she released Earth Signs as an independent artist, which had three singles: “Superman,” “Locked In,” and “You.”

“Shiver” is the debut single off of her upcoming EP which is slated to come later this summer. The sultry song was produced by D’Mile, who has worked with artists like H.E.R., Victoria Monét and Silk Sonic.

When discussing the song, Simone explains, “‘Shiver’ is a song from a strong, feminine perspective about communicating how you want to feel. I hope people can relate to it in their own individual way, and that it makes them feel empowered, sexy, and confident.”

The song has a sensual feel with lyrics like “Make it melt like ice when I shiver/ River open wide when I shiver.” The “Shiver” singer’s effortless whistle notes add to the song’s sexy appeal.

“Shiver” marks a new era for the R&B newcomer as the song made it to Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Fresh Picks of the Week. When discussing her new sound, the singer expressed, “I wanted to find that perfect blend of the 90s R&B I grew up listening to and next wave/forward sonics and lyricism that I feel ultimately represent the artist I am, and am striving to be.”

In addition to signing with a new label, the R&B star has also changed her stage name. In her interview with Atwood Magazine, Simone states, “Starting so young in the industry, I think it can sometimes be hard for people to see me outside of the image they were first introduced to me as, so the name switch allowed me to be able to separate the 9-year-old version of myself/music people might know and the grown woman and artist I am now.”

Recently the “You” singer has been teasing a new single called “Shut Up” on social media.
