Viewers won’t need to wait too long for the return of the Game of Thrones world as the next spinoff series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has begun filming in Belfast.

On Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter shared a first look at the upcoming spinoff. This image shows one of the main characters, Ser Duncan the Tall. Longtime fans of the franchise might recognize the filming location, Belfast, which was also the production hub for the original Game of Thrones series.

The series is based on George RR Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg. Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan, while Dexter Sol Ansen portrays Aegon “Egg” Targaryen. The series will explore their lives a century before the events of Game of Thrones when the memories of the last dragons have not yet faded. The first season consists of six episodes directed by Owen Dennis (Black Mirror) and Sarah Adina Smith (Lessons in Chemistry).

In addition, several other actors have joined the cast. Finn Bennett (True Detective) is portraying Aerion Targaryen. Bertie Carvel (Doctor Fauster) and Sam Spruell (Fargo) will embody his uncles Baelor and Maekar. Finally, Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things) and Daniel Ings (Lovesick) have joined the cast.

Though no release date has been set, there is a continued interest in Westeros’s history. House of the Dragon launched its sophomore season last Sunday, with a third season entering production later this year. In addition, other spinoffs, including Ten Thousand Ships, are in development at HBO.

Though A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will likely be a story on a much smaller scale, many fans love these novellas and will be interested to see how they are adapted. You can watch other stories in the Game of Thrones universe on Max.
