Diljit Dosanjh, the Punjabi superstar, made his first American television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Although quite popular in the South Asian community, this was the singer’s second time performing for a large Western audience. Last year, Dosanjh made history by becoming the first-ever Punjabi singer to perform at Coachella.

The Lover singer has reached yet another milestone with his memorable performance on The Tonight Show. Fallon introduced Dosanjh as “the biggest Punjabi artist on the Planet,” and the singer then went on to perform his hit songs “Born to Shine,” and “G.O.A.T.” This performance was a meaningful achievement for Punjabi music, as it brought that genre onto mainstream television.

Furthermore, in a behind-the-scenes video posted to the star’s Instagram account, he acknowledged that his appearance on The Tonight Show will open the doors for other Punjabi artists.

While performing “G.O.A.T” Dosanjh switched out “Bollywood” with “Hollywood” in his lyrics, gesturing towards the host. Moreover, Fallon later posted a video on his Instagram titled “Learning how to speak Punjabi with Diljit Dosanjh.” The video also made for a fun moment as Fallon was seen trying to properly pronounce the singer’s catchphrase, “Punjabi Aa Gaye Oye” (the Punjabis have arrived).

Fallon also posted a behind-the-scenes glove swap with the singer. The host is seen passing on his white gloves with The Tonight Show logo on them, while Dosanjh gives Fallon his signature black gloves.

Additionally, Dosanjh was riding off the success of his Dil-Illuminati World Tour, which started on April 27 in Vancouver, with appearances all over the U.S. and ended on July 13 in Toronto. Dosanjh is undoubtedly the biggest Punjabi artist at the moment, from performing with Ed Sheeran in Mumbai, India, to collaborating with Sia on “Hass Hass,” the singer is doing it all.

Moreover, fans worldwide are praising Dosanjh on the internet for this achievement.

Undoubtedly, the thing that draws people to Dosanjh is how unapologetically he reps his culture. With a white turban, kameez, dhoti, and Bhangra moves, the “G.O.A.T” singer stole the show.
