The New York premiere of the A Quiet Place: Day One prequel film took place on July 26, and it has been impossible for critics to stay quiet ever since.

Leading up to its official release, A Quiet Place: Day One earned massive critical acclaim. The day after the premier, the new horror film debuted with a score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Though the film officially releases on June 28, countless critics are already singing its praises.

Though some may worry that A Quiet Place: Day One might not live up to the phenomenal standard set by the original film, critics confirm that the prequel film achieves excellence in its own right. As Dylan Roth from the Observer writes, “What could have been an over-inflated expansion of a successful small-scale horror story is instead a worthy successor and a strong film in its own right. If every profitable movie must spawn a franchise, then this is exactly how it should be done.”

In a similar vein, Jack King from GQ Magazine [UK] asserts that “Not only is [the film] technically well-made, it makes you feel things, which is why people still go to the movies, by and large.”

Moreover, several critics have noted that A Quiet Place: Day One features powerhouse performances from its leading stars, Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn. As Matt Oakes from Silver Screen Riot puts it, “If you’re going to have a movie that’s basically 90% a silent film, you can’t do much better than casting the venerable Lupita Nyong’o in the starring role.”

Ben Travis from Empire Magazine attributes the horror film’s greatness to both of its leads, stating, “A solid ‘A Quiet Place’ entry is elevated by Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn’s affecting performances — a surprisingly tender tale of the end of days.”

It is evident from critical reviews that the latest entry in the A Quiet Place franchise is bound to make noise with audiences everywhere. As Sharai Bohannon from Dread Central notes, the film is “big, beautiful, and tense. The film expertly navigates a more interesting avenue found within this world without losing sight of the human condition.”
