Childish Gambino Releases Trailer for New Film Bando Stone & The New World
Last weekend at the BET Awards, Childish Gambino revealed the trailer for his new film Bando Stone & The New World.
Gambino (born Donald Glover) debuted the new trailer at the BET Awards after presenting Killer Mike with the award for album of the year. Ironically, before presenting the award, the “This Is America” rapper used his speech to call out the BET Awards for overlooking his work over the years.
“This isn’t personal, but I just feel like I should have more BET awards,” the artist stated. “It’s the Black Entertainment Television Awards. How much more entertaining do I have to do? …I have more Grammys than Will Smith…but I have the same amount of BET awards as Sam Smith.”

The “Heartbeat” rapper then revealed the trailer for his upcoming sci-fi film, Bando Stone & The New World. The new film stars Glover as Bando Stone, a famous singer in a desolate, post-apocalyptic world almost devoid of people. When Stone crosses paths with a woman and her child, he joins them to survive against deadly monsters, dinosaurs, giant squids, and mysterious sky lasers.
The film, which the “Redbone” singer directed himself, will also feature a soundtrack that will reportedly serve as the final studio album to be released under the Childish Gambino persona.
Though neither the upcoming film nor its accompanying soundtrack has a release date, fans still have much to enjoy from the “3005” artist. In May, the singer released Atavista, a reimagined version of his 2020 musical project, 3.15.20. The “Bonfire” rapper also has his first single from the Bando Stone & The New World soundtrack, “Lithonia,” releasing on July 2.
As Gambino expressed on Instagram Live, he wants his fans to have fun with the new single, along with his upcoming film and soundtrack. “I’m trying to have fun,” he stated. “Because I feel like there’s just people not having enough fun. When I was a kid there [were], like, big things that would unite us, and I just feel bad for y’all.”
