Get ready because Kesha will be releasing new music for the first time since 2023. The single “JOY RIDE” will drop on Independence Day. It’s the first time fans are hearing from the “We R Who We R” singer since her departure from Dr. Luke’s label.

Kesha hinted about the much-anticipated release all the way back in February with V Magazine, saying, “There is a day—although I won’t say the day—but there is a day marked on my calendar when I am free to release music.” She shared that she had “never felt happier, more excited, more at peace and had such a purpose in [her] entire life.”

Now, we know the date she had in mind was July 4, the perfect time to celebrate her independence from a purportedly abusive environment. After almost a decade of suits and countersuits –all of which were highly publicized every step of the way– a settlement was reached between Dr. Luke and Kesha, who was finally freed from her contractual obligations to his record label in December 2023.

Based on the artist’s statements, this new chapter is about enjoying freedom and indulging in hard-earned happiness. The “Cannibal” singer promoted the release of “JOYRIDE” with glamorous shots from the road, sporting red vinyl and sheer looks.

If anyone were to suggest this new era prizes style over substance, they would be dead wrong. The singer-songwriter honed her craft by teaching a songwriting course at the Esalen Institute. The jaunt into academia was the perfect opportunity to reconnect with her process and give back to the musical community. She revealed to V Magazine that the experience was “exactly what [her] body, soul and spirit knew [she] needed.”

The artist’s resilience is incredibly admirable, and her lyrics reflect that inner strength. Kesha performed “JOYRIDE” for the first time on June 30 in Brooklyn to fans’ delight.

The bold lyrics make it clear the single is a self-love anthem. With several tour dates left on the calendar, we can’t wait to see what else the singer has in store. Fans are already hailing her imminent return as a cultural reset, and we couldn’t agree more.

From her signature party style to her powerful lyrics, this might just be the summer of Kesha. We’d like to wish her a very happy Independence Day and congratulate her on the release, which is available to pre-save now.
