An article published on TUDUM, the official website of Netflix’s yearly fan event, revealed eight new castings. These actors are joining returning stars Tom Sturridge, Patton Oswalt, and Gwendoline Christie in the second season. The series continues to follow Morpheus, the god of dreams, as he rebuilds his realm after spending a century in human captivity.

First, Rauri O’Conner (The Morning Show) will portray Dream’s son, Orpheus. Freddie Fox (The Gentlemen) appears as Loki, the Norse god of mischief. In addition, Clive Russell, who recently joined the cast of One Piece, stars as Loki’s blood brother, Odin, while Laurence O’Fuarain portrays Odin’s son, Thor. Furthermore, Anne Skelly and Douglas Booth will appear as representatives of the Fae court. Meanwhile, Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones) appears as Puck, the hobgoblin jester. Finally, Indya Moore will appear as security agent Wanda, and Steve Coogan is voicing talking canine companion Barnabas.

The Sandman is a comic series created by Neil Gaiman. Attempts to adapt it into a film have been made since its publication in the 1990s. However, after Gaiman rejected a number of pitches and scripts, the project pivoted to a big-budget television series. Eventually, Netflix signed a deal with Warner Brothers to develop the incredibly expensive project. Due to the expected budget of over 160 million dollars, various television networks refused to move forward with the series.

The first 11-episode season premiered in August 2022 to critical and audience acclaim. It was a massive success for Netflix and was swiftly renewed for a second season.

In addition to The Sandman, Netflix released the spinoff series, Dead Boy Detectives, earlier this year to audience and critical approval. The spinoff takes place in the same universe and several actors from The Sandman reprise their roles. Whether characters from Dead Boy Detectives will appear in the second season remains unknown.
