Meryl Streep will return in a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, which is now in the works. That’s all.

The cultural impact of the original 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada cannot be overstated. Starring Streep as the fashionably wicked Miranda Priestly plus Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway as her assistants, the stylish satirical comedy raked $326.7 million at the worldwide box office, earning Streep an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe. With Streep and Blunt returning to reprise their roles, a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is now in the works at Disney.

Based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, the original film follows Hathaway as Andrea Sachs, a young journalist navigating her new job as an assistant to Priestly, a devilish fashion magazine editor. According to Variety, the latest sequel will follow Priestly attempting to hold onto her career while the magazine publishing industry continues to go downhill. In need of advertising dollars, Priestly will confront Emily Charlton, Blunt’s character in the original film, who has become a powerful executive for a luxury group.

Streep and Blunt will not be the only ones revisiting the world of The Devil Wears Prada. The producer of the first film, Wendy Finerman, will return to set for the sequel, and the original film’s screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, has been recruited to pen the new script. David Frankel, the director of the hit fashion film, is also in talks about returning.

Fans of the original film are shocked at the news that a sequel is in the works, mainly because the film’s actors themselves have previously expressed doubt that a follow-up film would happen.

In an interview with E! News last March, Hathaway discussed the prospect of a sequel, stating, “I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen. But I think we will continue to give out awards to other people, so I think there’s a future for that.” Fans everywhere rejoice at the surprise and eagerly await more news regarding the next installment of the iconic film franchise.
