Pop music is back. Katy Perry just announced the release of her sixth studio album, 143.

Ever since the “California Gurls” singer began teasing her lead single, “Woman’s World,” fans have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of KP6. The pop star temporarily ceased making music after her 2020 album, Smile, dropped, and fans have been begging Perry for years to return to the music scene. On July 10, “The Teenage Dream” singer gave her fans a big surprise by revealing the upcoming album’s title, 143, its release date, and some new cover art.

Perry’s sixth studio album, 143, will be released on September 20. The cover art depicts the “Dark Horse” singer as an ethereal Wonder Woman figure emerging from a glowing portal and seemingly wearing glass. The cover art for 143 sends a message: the Grammy-nominated artist plans to transport her fans to another world with this new era of music.

The pop artist’s main goal for this new album is to make her fans get up and dance. The description for the upcoming album makes this sentiment clear, stating, “Katy set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album […] The result is a sexy, fearless return to form for the multifaceted musician with an album jam packed with the empowering, sexy, & provocative pop anthems you’ve come to love. This is an album with a lot of heart and a lot of BPM.” “Heart” is right – the number 143 is 90’s text-lingo code for “I love you.”

Later that day, the “Hot n Cold” singer had another surprise in store for her fans. The artist took to Instagram Live and played a few snippets of unreleased tracks from her upcoming album. The songs she previewed included “Gimme Gimme” featuring 21 Savage, “Nirvana,” and “I’m His He’s Mine” featuring Doechii. The exciting new features, along with the clubby, high-energy sound of the previewed tracks, has her fans more hyped than ever for the upcoming album and for its lead single, which drops on July 11.

Katy Perry’s sixth studio album, 143, drops on September 20. Until then, fans can pre-order the album here.
