Multidisciplinary artist Petra Collins has released the “I’m Sorry” clothing line with SSENSE, one of several clothing collections Collins has created. “I’m Sorry” follows the concept of a wedding and wedding gown as a divisive piece.

Collins is a creative director, producer, photographer, and clothing designer. Her extensive work reflects her brilliant, dreamy, dark fantasy art style. Her music videos for rising star Olivia Rodrigo are some of the artist’s most notable works.

These two have a fantastic partnership that allows them to create engaging and aesthetic projects. Collins has also created lookbooks for purchase, like Fairy Tales, which stars Euphoria’s Alexa Demie.

The collection’s wedding theme is interesting, as Collins told Harper’s Bazaar that she never really dreamed of her wedding. The artist shares, “I come from a very nontraditional background—as a kid, I never pictured my wedding. I really was like: ‘I’m never going to get married.'” Therefore, she called designer Mimi Wade for help with this loaded project.

Collins draws inspiration from the iconic wedding photo of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain exchanging vows in Hawaii. The photo’s relaxed nature, carefree aesthetic, and the couple’s clothes draw the artist.

Given her video and photography background, Collins approached this project with the idea of the collection being the first part of the trilogy. It includes Wade as the costume designer and comprises leather mini shorts, chunky accessories, and trompe l’oeil minidresses. The following parts will have designers who create something else that follows the protagonist.

The artist explains the protagonist’s story: “Maybe this is someone getting married, or maybe she’s already married. She’s either marrying her best friend on summer break and they’re going buck wild—or she had married someone, and she’s escaped and she’s now going on a crazy bender.”

The wedding dress is 80s-themed, with some cheeky aspects, and the length is short so she can run away. Wade and Collins then come up with what else she’d need for her trip, like a silver leather bikini top and matching hot pants with “HELP” written on the back.

Overall, Collins emphasizes the importance of finding joy and silliness in the collection as that’s the shining point. She hopes that the Miss I’m Sorry people of the world don’t take themselves too seriously.

While Collins takes fashion seriously, she also thinks “it’s really important to have humor about it. We’re putting these garments onto our bodies, and it’s just messy and fun. Miss I’m Sorry is a little crazy and a little humorous, loves to shop!”
