M. Night Shyamalan’s New Thriller Trap Comes to Theaters
Visionary director M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, Trap, opened in theaters this weekend and grossed 6.7 million on opening day.
Trap is a gripping psychological thriller starring Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, and Shyamalan’s daughter, R&B singer Saleka. In customary Shyamalan fashion, the film’s audience is never quite sure where the plot will take them, but they know they’re in good hands.
Hartnett stars as Cooper, a doting father to Donoghue’s bubbly Riley. But when Cooper escorts Riley to a concert, it’s revealed that what should have been an innocuous father-daughter bonding experience is actually an elaborate cat-and-mouse game. Cooper does his utmost to evade the imminent threat without ruining his daughter’s night, but the more we learn, the more it becomes unclear who our hero really is.
The concert is headlined by fictitious pop star Lady Raven, portrayed by Saleka Shyamalan in her acting debut. The “Seance” singer wrote and performed fourteen original songs for this release and already boasts a single, “Remain,” on her father’s film Old. To fans’ delight, Columbia Records has now released Trap’s soundtrack.
